Since 2006, the MGM acts as Point G of Culture. This project offers theatre workshops, dance, “drag queen” and computing training
[1] to homosexuals. The objective is to identify, to value, to document and to divulge the GLBT culture. This way, the organisation has been investing in the artistic potential of the community that frequents the CCH.
With the project, 25 homosexuals have been developing their talents, acting as agents of Culture. There are seven people in the Group of Theatre (six professionals), twelve in the Group of Street Dance (all professionals) and six in the Group of “Drag Queens” (all amateurs). The so-called professional agents receive a monthly grant of R$ 150.00 (US$ 73), whereas the amateurs practice aiming to reach that status too. In addition to performing, the three groups attend computing workshops. This way they document their production in video and audio.
The Point G of Culture Project is funded by the Culture Alive Programme of the Culture Ministry. The object is to promote the Brazilian cultural multiplicity, consolidating popular arts manifestations. The MGM project was the only one with focus on the GLBT culture, amongst all the projects approved by the Ministry.
