Education

In Juiz de Fora, teachers, university students and educators are coming back to the classroom. They take part of the Extension Course on Homosexuality, developed by the MGM in partnership with the SECAD (Secretary of Further Education, Literacy and Diversity of the Ministry for Education) and Secretary for Education of the Juiz de Fora Prefecture. In this course, teachers attend to talks on the role of the school in the sexual orientation and seminars discussing questions such as human rights, gender relations, media and health.

Justice

The MGM offers free of charge legal advice in cases of sexual orientation-related discrimination to Juiz de Fora’s homosexuals. The MGM Justice project was established in partnership with the Nucleus of Juridical Practice of the University Salgado de Oliveira (Universo). Funding comes from the National STD/AIDS Programme (Ministry of Health) and from the SEDH (Special Secretary for Human Rights of the Presidency of the Republic).

Visibility

Visibility is what the Rainbow Fest and the GLBT Citizenship and Pride Parade of Juiz de Fora both propose. Nowadays, these two yearly events organised by the MGM are recognisably an important element of the national events calendar, involving the whole city and bringing thousands of tourists to Juiz de Fora.

Pride

Many a people have discovered themselves as a new person in the groups of debate maintained by the MGM. For this reason, day after day, we have observed a steady growth on the levels of attendance to the CCH. Every week, thematic groups meet to debate questions of the homosexual interest, to exchange ideas, and even flirt. In 2006, the average attendance was 100 youth to the Group of Adolescent Gays and 90 to the Group GLBT, dedicated to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals over 18.

The MGM (Movimento Gay de Minas - Gay Organisation[1] of Minas) is a non-profit non-governmental organisation with headquarters in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The MGM was founded in 28 June 2000 and our mission is to promote the full citizenship of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals (GLBT).
